In this series, you will learn how to make seasonal kanzashi for ”Maiko”. The Kanzashi of September is Chinese Bellflower.

It is a historical flower, used as the family crest of many samurai warriors and also included in the seven autumn herbs.

There are two types of Maiko’s kanzahi. One is with single flower and the other type is with many flowers bundled together. This time we’ll make single large flower which will be challenging to make.

How To Make The Flower


We will learn how to dye the fabric, make double-layer maru tsumami and adjustment, and techniques to make large-size petals to make a Chinese bellflower.

How To Make A Bud and Leaves

We will learn how to make a bud and leaves using ken tsumami technique using wires. This technique is very useful once you learned it.

Assemble Into The Kanzashi


We will learn how to assemble a flower, a bud, and leaves to form into right position to make Maiko's typical kanzashi which is used in September.
